TOURIST || DEFINITION OF TOURIST || TYPES OF TOURIST || TRAVELLER || VISITOR

★ Tourist :-

       Tourist simply mean a person who travels from one place to another place . The word tourist is taken from a Latin word ‘Tornous’ which means tourist . 
       It can be defined as a circle which starts from any particular point and finally ending at the same point.So, a tourist is a person who undertake travel by completing his journey .

* According to IUOTO {1937} (International Union of Official Travel Organisation) :

       The term tourist is a principal in which a person travel for 24 hours , stay in a country other then those country where he usually stay and as per this the following person are regarded as tourist ~ 

   > Person travelling for pleasure , health purpose and entertainment .

   > Person travelling for business meeting purpose .

   > Person arriving in the country by cruise staying not less than 24 hours .

— The following person is not regarded as tourist : 

   > Person arriving for occupational purpose .

   > Student or young person arriving for study purpose.

   > Person travelling to resident purpose .

   > Travellers passing through any country without stopping even if he undertakes journey for more than 24 hours .

* According to A.J. Norwal (1936) :

       Tourist is a person who enter into a foreign country for whatever purpose other than permanent residence and earning , spending money at the destination visited which has been earn else where.

* According to Ogilive :

       Tourist is a person who satisfied the following two conditions ~

   > Person is away from his living and work place.

   > He stays at the destination , spend money and do not engaged in earning .

— From above all the destinations we came to know that tourist is a person who fulfil the following conditions :

 1). A person who travel from one place to another place.

 2). Temporary displacement .

 3). Atleast 24 hours stay .

 4). Different purpose such as health , business , environment , meeting , etc.

 5). Spending money at the destination .

 6). Not to engaged in earning .

* Definition adopted by INDIA :

       Tourist is a person who enter in India on a foreign passport for at least 24 hours and for the specific purpose which may be classified as sports , health , meeting , VFR (Visiting Friend & Relatives) , etc.

— The following are not included the definition for a tourist : 

   > Person coming to India with or without any contract to undertake any business activity .

   > Person coming to India for permanent residence .

   > Children below the age of 3 years .

   > All the foreign coming to India by surface transport from Bhutan .
   > All the nationals of Nepal coming to India through Indo-Nepal boarder .
   > Person stay for less than 24 hours stay in India.

* Final Definition :

       Tourist is a person who travel from one place to another place for different purposes such as business , entertainment , health , etc. and stay there for at least 24 hours spending money at the destination , do not engaged in earning and finally coming back to his own place .

— Categorisation of tourist :

  Tourist can be divided into following two categories -

 • Wanderlust 

 • Sunlust

                             • Wanderlust :

       Tourist are also known as explorer or adventurous. As the name indicates that wanderlust tourist are adventurous by nature which mean they are risk takers and they want to travel to unknown places. They want to explore now destinations hence , they do not demand all types of facilities at the destination which means they will travel to destination even with very minimum facilities at the destination .
For example - A person travelling to Mount Everest or any person participating in adventurous activities such as trekking , mountaineering , rock climbing , etc. then in such a case he doesn't demand facilities , the traveller only enjoy the adventure .

                              • Sunlust :

       It is a second type of tourist who are totally reverse of wanderlust tourist . So, a sunlust tourist refer to that type of tourist who travel to familiar or known places where all the facilities are provided which mean these tourist avoid all those places which are lacking in terms of facilities they are also known as risk avoiders .

For example - Travelling to Nainital , Jaipur , Manali .

* Traveller :-

     Traveller is a person who simply travel from one place to another place , any kind of displacement or movement which may be of 2 km or 50 km or more comes under the category of travelling and the person who undertake such activity is known as traveller .

* Visitor :-

       Visitor is a person or traveller who visit to a particular place with some defined purpose other than business and coming back to the place of origin.
For example - A person visit to hospital for his friend or relative who is admitted there .

— Similarities ~

   > Participate in Travel .
   > Temporary displacement .
   > Origin point and destination point .
